This will be a brief post, but it’s about something I’ve been trying to do lately: recognizing and praising good work when I see it. In the fast pace of delivering tasks and meeting deadlines, it’s easy to overlook the great efforts of our teammates.
For example, a junior developer on the team who consistently improves the codebase’s tests. With each PR, they address minor issues and gradually eliminate “broken windows” simply because they find it straightforward to fix. While reviewing the PR, we might think, “Nice! This is great; we’re improving!” But too often, that’s where the thought ends, kept to ourselves.
Instead, Make an effort to actively share the appreciation—not only by leaving comments in the PR and sending a DM but also, if it’s a recurring positive contribution, by formally recognizing it on platforms like Qulture rocks or other feedback tools. This simple act can mean a lot to the person, specially someone onboarding a company or had just been promoted.
We many times don’t remember good things we did for our own performance review so imagine for other people 😅. So praise! don’t let good complements go by without people knowing them!
